Carol Alexander is one of the world's leading authorities on market risk analysis. In her role as Chair of the Academic Advisory Council of the Professional Risk Manager's International Association (PRMIA) she has been a driving force for the setting of global standards in the financial risk management profession. Her untiring work on the Professional Risk Manager's Handbook and on classroom and distance learning training courses now provides the means to achieve these standards. Very good introduction

This is a very good introduction on the subject of portfolio management. I bought these books as a mathematical engineer because I want to write my thesis about stock options. Everything is clearly explained, they even explain a lot of the easy mathematics you need to succeed in the world of finance. Every book contains a cd which is very handy if you want to calculate an option's price in a minute or something.

In my opinion there is not enough said in the book about options, but then again, it is a book to learn the basics. If you want to become a succesfull options trader, you do need more literature on the forecasting of volatility surfaces and backtesting of technical indicators etc.

Brilliant, easy to read, ideal for self study and covering basically everything a serious finance practitoner needs to know. Lot's of hand's on solutions in excel - the only way to test whether one really understands the principles.

About the author Vadim Manassewitsch graduated from Columbia University in 1959. Since 1981, he has worked independently as a consultant teaching frequency synthesis and designing state-of-the-art synthesizers—his specialty for 27 years. Previously, he served as an electrical engineer with Manson Laboratories, Inc., as a project engineer with Westrex Company—a division of Litton Industries—and as a member of the technical staff of RCA’s Surface Communications Systems Laboratory. He worked as a project engineer for Polarad Electronic Instruments, as a senior member of the technical staff of ITT’s Defense Communications Division, as an engineering consultant for GI’s Electronic Systems Division, and as a senior member of the technical staff of Rockland Systems, Inc.

This book is a classic. I constantly used a colleague's copy for the longest time. Finally I decided to get my own. It is a must have for anybody working on frequency synthesizers. But this is not what makes it great, it is the additional information that the author adds. Shielding effectiveness, control isolation. Topics which are essential to low noise synthesizer designs, but are normally not included in text books. Many of these are things that one only picks up through experience, empirically, and they are presented here well organized and easy to follow. Another author that I also like, because of similar style and constant addition of this type of hard-to-find data is Randy Rhea.

Some chapters show Europe and the US continue to dominate, especially when taking art market rankings and the most powerful events such as Art Basel into account. However, other chapters argue that things such as art fairs are truly global events and that the 'architecture of the art market' which has originally been developed in Europe and the US from the 19th century onwards, is increasingly adopted across the world.

Olav Velthuis is Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology of the University of Amsterdam. He is currently studying the emergence and development of art markets in the BRIC-countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China). Velthuis is the author of Imaginary Economics (NAi Publishers, 2005) and Talking Prices. Symbolic Meanings of Prices on the Market for Contemporary Art (Princeton University Press, 2005), which received the Viviana Zelizer Distinguished Book Award of the American Sociological Association for the best book in economic sociology (2006). Together with Maria Lind of Tensta Konsthall (Stockholm), he recently edited the book Contemporary Art and Its Commercial Markets A Report on Current Conditions and Future Scenarios (Sternberg Press, 2012). A recognized authority on art markets, his journalistic writings have appeared in among others Artforum, the Art Newspaper and the Financial Times.

Stefano Baia Curioni is Associate Professor at the Department of Institutional Analysis of Bocconi University in Milano. He is founder, former Director and vice President of the ASK (Art, Science, Knowledge) research center of Bocconi University, visiting professor of cultural economics at IMT institute Lucca for the Phd Heritage management and development. In the last fifteen years Baia Curioni concentrated his research and teaching activities in the field of cultural institutions and policies with a specific interest in the historical analysis of the transformation of art system and fields. His last book, Mercanti dell'Opera, is dedicated to the economic history of Italian Operatic music scene in the XIX and XX century. Within the ASK research center, Baia Curioni is leading a research project on the contemporary art legitimation processes and served the Italian Ministry of Culture for different intervention in the last years. Several subplots show Ringo's fondness for special ops types and marines, and his experience as a paratrooper shows in the way he handles military small-group politics and disciplinary problems. The subplots point up the potential grimness of Earth finding itself under siege, if not actually under assault. (Don't worry, that will probably come; this book has series written between all the lines.) The interstellar skulduggery is thick, and the final action sequence, occupying a third of the book, juxtaposes power armor, aliens, lasers, and leopard tanks, and is practically impossible not to read in one sitting. An exceedingly impressive first novel is what we have here. Standard military sf based on a standard premise--humans as the desperately needed warrior allies of alien pacifists--it may be, but it is executed with skill, verve, and wit. Roland Green

Bingo has become one of my favorite authors now

After having read two other series, I read the description of this book and wasn't sure about it. Too often, space/science fiction gets hokey to the point of yanking people out of their suspension of disbelief, if it is good enough to allow for it to begin with.

I am glad to say, other than being a little over wordy In a few places, this again is a winner. I find Dingo to provide consistently a good read. Very good story teller.

Military science fiction at its finest

John Ringo can write military science fiction as well as David Weber. He always honors the individual's potential to effect far-reaching ethical change, unlike G. T. Almasi's (Blades of Winter) celebration of violence as acceptable in and of itself. Ringo always carefully introduces the "evil" components of his stories and then uses his compelling sense of right vs wrong to impel his characters to do all they can and/or can inspire or enable in others to circumvent and then destroy those who foster, hide from, enable by inaction or stupidity, or actually accept evil. I am currently rereading this series with great pleasure. I have to admit that some of my favorite parts of these books are the introductory selections from Rudyard Kipling's poetry --- always strongly applicable and ironic.

Got me back into reading. 10/10

I have the paper book here somewhere... read the first four and just could not stop. Was kinda bummed the fourth book took a while to come out since it was the culmination of the series, or so I thought.

Turns out the series continues with a different characters but it was not yet available. :(
That was four or five years ago, probably 100 books easy in between but I would think of this series occasionally. Looked it up and am digital now so will definitely be buying the whole series again, including the newest additions.

This was my second space opera series, first one petered out after 3 books and was just boring boring filler with no content. Never even finished it... by this one- from the start, it is obvious of the actual experience perspectives and tone of the story, it isn't just another tale. I tell everyone I talk to of some part of the book or something that had me laughing from the mental imagery just laid out in spectacular fashion (if I can without being boorish).

For fans of true to life military science fiction, having read many others, this has to be my favorite. The believability of the story, the accuracy of the characters to what I remember and expect from persons in these scenarios... No ridiculous excessive drama that doesn't happen, no out of the blue special save the day surprises just to rescue the damsel in distress, just a real story about some real stuff that never happened. Probably.
